After spending time in Raleigh and checking out the JC Raulston Arboretum, my family and I started on our trip to the Outer Banks. But that destination was still a few days away – we had some stops to make first.

We started at the Tryon Palace governor’s mansion in New Bern.

Since the last time I was there (2015, posted previously in NC section), Tryon Palace has built a large and attractive history center. It holds exhibits and a shop. Now visitors park their cars, then take an oversized golf cart shuttle a few blocks to the mansion.

The first photo below is the historic clock in the history center’s lobby. I think one of the guides said it was from a local factory, but I couldn’t find any information on their web site.

I really enjoyed seeing Tryon Palace again. I tried to choose different views from the last visit to show some additional aspects of the mansion.

As always, I used my favorite Picasa program to make the photos a little prettier.
