I’m not able to deal with thoughts of winter yet, but early fall is always a pleasant time of year. This year I was in Lancaster County for a few weeks in October. Instead of taking photos of flowers, I took photos of squashes and gourds.
I decided to try using my Picasa editing utilities to create a more interesting picture of the gourds. It was harder than it looked.
Cropping an attractive photo from these random shapes was difficult. I had to make sure there were no dark rivers of shadow running through the photo, and also that there were no, um, suggestive shapes. I do like the finished product with its variety of shapes and colors.
I used these Picasa edits: crop, auto contrast, posterize, comic book, saturation, glow, tuning, sharpen, HDR-ish, vignette and museum matte.
