Koinobori are carp-shaped wind socks that are displayed annually as part of the Children’s Day celebration in Japan. Children’s Day honors children and offers wishes for a good future and good health.
Although Children’s Day was not until May 5, the socks were on display at the side of the highway when we passed by in April 1990. They were a colorful and cheerful display, and I was happy that I managed to get a picture of them through the window of the bus we were riding in.
I spent a lot of time cropping the photo and experimenting with Picasa fixes to make a more colorful picture: sharpen, Orton-ish, boost, auto-contrast, I’m feeling lucky, tuning, border and museum matte.
