I took this photo of my brother with his oldest son during a family outing at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. Hard to believe it was so long ago! My nephew has children of his own now.
You have to be careful when you enhance older pictures. If you start getting too enthusiastic trying different effects to clean up the photo, you end up changing the colors a lot and get an overall distorted look. Be patient and keep adjustments simple.
Don’t worry about cropping perfectly at the first attempt, Picasa will let you recrop again and again without losing what you’ve already done. Be sure to save versions of the photo as you go. To save time and frustration, keep in mind that that the photo fix will never be perfect and at a certain point it’s the best it’ll ever be.
The effects used on the original photo below were:
- Auto contrast
- I’m feeling lucky
- Graduated tint
- Museum matte
